Firmware update for C1524E? (JetStore 5000)

Searching support with the model # on the drive label - C1524E - directs you to support pages for the 5000e drive. There is a firmware update available via:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?locale=en_US&prodNum=C1521A〈=English+%28American%29&basePartNum=co141&locBasepartNum=co141en&prodName=HP+SureStore+5000+Firmware&os=MS-DOS&tech=Firmware

It's the only one listed for the 5000e. That results in a download called tard_dos.exe

Extracting the files and running it only produces error messages "not enough files in directory" and "invalid command /o" (which I'm not entering) and the update doesn't run. I've checked and the downloaded file is the correct size.

What's wrong? Did HP reference the wrong file to update this drive? FWIW the drive currently id's itself as an HP35480A

You can try HP L&TT - http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools. I don't entirely recall if this partciular drive is fully supported. There were some limitations in early versions of LTT, but I think they have been resolved.
