Help Regarding "HP Data Protector Express Single Server Edition"
I just bought a "HP Storage Works Ultrium 960 External Tape Drive", and it includes "HP Storage Works Data Protector Express Single Server Edition" software.
My problem is that this software have a very limited options.
May I know what version of "HP Data Protector Express" do I need to do the following:
1.> we are going to backup atleast 10 servers thru the network
(all servers will be map to 1 server where the HP external tape drive is installed)
2.> we need to backup online
(we will backup even the servers applications are running)
3.> we already have "HP Storage Works Data Protector Express Single Server Edition"
- this one only works for just one server
- we need to backup using full, differential & incremental backup
- we need disaster recovery for servers
- we are going to backup for Windows 2003,2000,NT,XP
And do you know how much it cost?
Thanks,
Richard Cruz

Re: Help Regarding "HP Data Protector Express Single Server Edition"
Hi Richard,
I can tell you what you need but you'll have to talk to a sales representative for prices. Data Protector Express is sold through HP's online store and is also sold through major online resellers like CDW and Insight.
First, you will need to upgrade from Single Server Edition to the full network backup product. That will give you one server license, one tape license, and one Bare Metal Disaster Recovery license. The HP product number for this upgrade is BB117ET.
Next you will need a client license system running a server OS. In your case, this would be Windows 2000 or 2003. Windows XP clients are free. The HP Product number for this license is BB121AA for a single license or BB122AA for a 3 server license.
You didn't mention what applicatins you were running. Open files on Win 2003 and XP can be covered by Microsoft's VSS. To backup servers running SQL or Exchange while those applications are running you will need a license for each server running the application. The Exchange license is BB123AA and the SQL license is BB124AA.
Finally, for each server you want to be able to do a Dr from Bare Metal - just connect the tape drive and recover directly from tape - you will need the BMDR/OBDR option. This is product number BB128AA.

Re: Help Regarding "HP Data Protector Express Single Server Edition"
Thanks a lot Dave, that's very helpful.
One more question.
I wanted to backup our Domino Lotus Notes Email Server while running, what version of HP Data Protector Express do I need to buy?
Thanks a lot again.
Richard

Re: Help Regarding "HP Data Protector Express Single Server Edition"
Hi Richard,
There is no online agent for Lotus Notes. HP recommends St. Bernard Software's Open File Manager and also resells it.
The product number varies by number of servers you license. It also works to provide open file backup for Win 2000 and maybe even NT. (you will have to check with St. Bernard on that. http://stbernard.com
