HP DAT 72 Compression
Yes, I have seen the links about Compression on both Veritas and HP's site. I'm running Backup Exec 8.6 with Win2K. I can't backup 32gbs I get the message about changing tapes.
This is really frustrating. I'm backing up tiff files from a LaserFiche Server. Any ideas?? There should be compression. But there isn't any. I've checked the option to use Hardware Compression in BackupExec.
Thanks
Selwyn

Re: HP DAT 72 Compression
if you cannot store more than 32 GB data on a 36 GB cartridge (36 is the native capacity, 72 is the 2:1 rtio capacity), and the hardware compression is checked, there may be other reason that make you wasted space on the tape:
if you have bad tapes (bad blocks on the tape)
if your data are alredy compressed on the server (some os already compress data on the file system to save space)
if you have software compression aslo active (double compression will generate lot of overheaders)
if your tape is not streaming (like backup from lan or backup highly fragmented file system, the drive will run without data and have blank space on the tape, loosing space)
I can suggest you to use L&TT to create a know amount of data with a know compression ration, and then send it to the drive and see if with thos well known data, you can store the expected ammount of data on the tape

Re: HP DAT 72 Compression
Strictly speaking, the HP DAT 72 isn't on the BE 8.6 compatibility list. Did you have to do anything special to make BE recognize the drive?
