HP Data Protector problem / query
Hi,
I don't know if this is the right forum to try in, but I am using HP Data Protector to do backups onto tape. It has been working fine, until I came to do a restore - and then I discovered that I cannot find a whole directory & subdirectories. I checked the backup settings and it is ticked to be backed up - and I cannot find any error messages regarding the directory.
If is directory tree has more then 256 characters would Data protector not back it up? Can anyone advise of anything that may have caused this?
thanks in advance.
Alex

Re: HP Data Protector problem / query
I just recently saw dataprotector at work so my knowledge is limited.
maybe dataprotector is configured to make "incremental" backups. that is only new/changed files are backed-up.
see if you can switch from backup-date view to media or file-tree view to, so you can see is some of the files are backupped, in an older backup.
or check a file that you now is changed at a certain date and try to locate that file in any of the backupsets.

Re: HP Data Protector problem / query
Hello - update on this problem.
I feel really silly, but I found my missing directory...
data protector lists the directories in Alpha-Numeric order... and it also makes a difference if its a capital or a small letter. ie 1,2,0,A,B,C,Z,a,b,c,z
ho hum.
Thanks for the help though
