HP dds4 tape drive

Hello,

I m facing a problem in using a HP DDS-4, it's number is C5683A and using HP dds-4 data cartridge C5718A. This device installed on "Netserver LC 2000 U3" and operating system is winnt 4.0 . Before sometime ago it was working properly, but now when i read the old tape cartridge (which was written on the same tape drive), drive shows blank tape in the tape device. I used the winnt's Backup software for writting the tape, and now i m not able to using the tape drive. i chacked the properties of this device and are shows device is working porperly. i don't which driver i have to installed for the device if i re-installed.Can u please let me know the where can i get the driver, and i want to use the other software for using the tape writting instead of Winnt4.0 Backup software. Please help me out this problem.

I'll be thankful to u.

Regards

Amar

Re: HP dds4 tape drive

There is a driver specifically for NT4.
Once you navigate through the support selections, you'll get to the "download software and drivers" page, and then you can pick the NT4 driver. It should get you to here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?locale=en_USтМй=English+%28US%29&pnameOID=18545&prodSeriesId=63890&prodTypeId=12169&basePartNum=co515&locBasepartNum=co515en&os=Microsoft+Windows+NT+4.0&tech=Driver

To test your drive out, I would suggest installing HP L&TT (www.hp.com/support/tapetools), and run the read/write test on a known good (or new) tape.
The journey IS the reward.

Re: HP dds4 tape drive

Hi Amar,

You also asked: i want to use the other software for using the tape writting instead of Winnt4

You can try other backup software programs such as Tapeware, Veritas etc.

You can download a trial version of tapeware from this link (it's free for 30 days):

http://www.tapeware.com/

But please be advised that this new backup software wont be able to read the tapes you backed up on the native backup.

Good luck

And a THANK YOU to David and Mohammed from all of us that didn't know about the Library and Tape Tools package! The 10MB download is in progress; I can always use another good tool. (And thanks to HP for making it available!)
