HP DLT SureStore 80 C5725A

HP Netserver LH 6000r, tape drive is attached to SE SCSI on I/O board. Backups worked fine for about 2 years, but now we're getting long backups, event errors such as 9,11,15, and even BSOD. Drive was replaced with same results. I'm told we need an Adaptec 29160 low voltage controller to solve the problem. Willing to try it but curious why we were good for a few years without it. Appreciate any thoughts.

Re: HP DLT SureStore 80 C5725A

DLT 80 is an LVD device.Hence the need for the 29160. It will run in Single ended mode but the performance will be severely restricted. That's probably why it eventually failed.

You replaced drive so it's not under suspicion. Try to replace SCSI cable and terminator(s) on the bus. And then controller...
I agree with Lewis 29160 (or 29160lp) is a good choise for the drive. It will live better and perform faster :o)
