HP Stoargeworks DAT 72 External USB - fan noise
I have just purchased the above tape drive and am surprised by how much noise it makes when powered up - primarily from the fan. Are there any easy ways to reduce the noise?
I haven't got it installed on a PC yet but I am guessing this will make no difference to the noise it makes. At the moment I am thinking that I will have to power off the unit when it is not required. Its a long shot but is there any way it can be powered down using software when its idle? Any advice would be appreciated.

I have one of these as well and it is very quiet. I suspect something is wrong with the one you have.
