HP StorageWorks 1/8 G2 LTO-4 Ultrium 1760 SAS Tape Autoloader
We have been running this unit for about 2 years now. Last year this time, we had a drive failure and it was replaced by HP under warranty. All worked fine until the other day when we reloaded our backup server. Since then the tape drive does not anymore. The weird thing about all of this on the back of the unit it says itтАЩs a 1840 tape drive, but the firmware shows version U28W which is for the 1760 tape drive. Now, when I try to load the latest firmware update for the tape drive it returns an error, saying the firmware file is the wrong personality. I cannot upgrade, downgrade or install the 1840 firmware. Any ideas and advice will be much appreciated.

You should use LTT and pull a support ticket to check what drive it is, open a call at HP and ask them.
If this is a 1760 drive you cannot use 1840 firmware.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I was trying to update the firmware with the latest for the 1760 tape drive.

Consider to pull a LTT support ticket.
However, in case of problems with hardware you should ask HP support for help.
