HP StorageWorks 230 read/write errors
The issue was first noticed with the drive a few days ago when it failed to complete a backup using Veritas BackupExec software. The backup failed around the 80% mark and the drive asked to be cleaned with the appropriate tape. After the cleaning run an identical error was received on the following scheduled task.
Since then, with the lastest LT&T Tool 3.5 SR2, I have performed a Drive Assessment Test and generated the attached support ticket. After a brief conversation with HP support I updated the firmware on the tape drive (E32D) and applied a few other updates for the Smart Array 6402 that controls a HDD RAID array. I have not been able to find any recent firmware/drivers for the HP Dual Channel WU3 SCSI adapter that the tape drive is attached to.
None of the updates have resulted in any change to the drives performance.
At my next available opportunity I will install Release 7.20 of the ProLiant Support Pack and Firmware Maintenance CD.
Can someone please interpret the errors that are appearing in the log and indicate the process to ammend the configuration.
Kind Regards,
Aaron.

Re: HP StorageWorks 230 read/write errors
read/write errors. lots of retries.
hard to tell whether it's the drive or the media. Have you tried a new piece of media ??

Re: HP StorageWorks 230 read/write errors
John,
Yes, I had tried a number of tapes with the same result each attempt.
I have since been back in contact with HP support who agreed, at this point, that it is most likely that the drive is faulty.
However, thankyou for taking the time to analyse and post a reply.
Aaron.
