HP StorageWorks DAT 40 USB + Veritas BackupExec 10
I am trying to setup BE on a windows 2003 machine to use the StorageWorks tape drive (external) however I cant seem to get Veritas to SEE the drive.
The drive is visable within Windows but Veritas just cannot see it!
Please reply if you have any ideas!

Re: HP StorageWorks DAT 40 USB + Veritas BackupExec 10
first disable removable storage in services and then download the Library and Tape tools diagnostic from here to test it.Mkae suer you upgrade to the latest firmware using LTT. Also be sure you are using a USB 2.0 connection

Re: HP StorageWorks DAT 40 USB + Veritas BackupExec 10
In addition to checking the drive with L&TT I would recomend the following:
Make sure that the drivers are loaded correctly, the best way to install the drivers is to use the executable installer available on the StorageWorks CD supplied with the drive, or download the installer from the HP support Website. This loads both the hpdat.sys tape driver and the hpusbmsc.sys USB mass storage driver. Re-installing the drivers by this method won't do any harm so may be worth a try.
Backup Exec will only scan for devices when its services are started, or at boot time. So make sure that the tape drive is switched on at boot time or ensure that the Backup Exec services are re-started after the tape drive is switched on
