What are the differences between these two drives? I have been using a C1552D for backup and would like to have a second drive as a spare. They will be used on an HP B180L workdstation.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: HP Surestore DAT 8 Tape drives C1552D and C1529K
C1552D - is a DAT 8eU that means it's a drive designed for UNIX based servers.
C1529K - is a standard DAT 8e drive that works on most servers.
The DAT 8eU may have a different power supply too.

I do this everyday...

Re: HP Surestore DAT 8 Tape drives C1552D and C1529K
Jeff- Since I would be using the C1529K on unix systems (HP-UX and SCO) is it a good bet that I can use it in place of the C1552D and that I could use it to restore tapes that had been recorded by the C1552D?

Yes, they are both DDS2 (8Gb) drives. The drive mechanisms are the same. I believe they differ in the firmware (the HP-UX drives used 'HP0x' firmware).

The journey IS the reward.
