HP surestore ultrium 230
We are trying to make backups of our Informix database with 'onarchive' tool, getting this error:
'Failure detected: ARC-E-01344, Error whil
e rewinding the save-set.'
We tried to save data to the ultrium device with 'dd' and 'tar', and then read the data back from the tape, and it works fine.
When testing the ultrium device with 'mt' command, these are the results:
# mt -f /dev/rmt/1m bsf
bsf 1 failed: I/O error
With 'fsf' parameter, 'offl' and 'rew', 'mt' command runs ok, without I/O errors.
Please, anybody can help us?
Thank you very much in advance!

Re: HP surestore ultrium 230
The following is from tne "man mt" command:
Only raw, no-rewind Berkeley-type devices should be specified. This
type of device will not reposition the tape upon close. An example of
such a device is /dev/rmt/0mnb.
Normaly /dev/rmt/1m is a rewinding device file and it is not possible to baskstace at tape if it already is rewinded.

Re: HP surestore ultrium 230
Perhaps we need additional patches for the Ultrium 230 device...
Thanks for your help Leif!

Re: HP surestore ultrium 230
I tested this on one of our Ultrium drives. Yes it works (I get no error messages using either rewinding or no-rewinding device files).
As this works for you with a DLT drive I dont think this is a OS patch problem (as Ultrium and DLT use the same (stape) driver. Perhaps you should look at the drive software, I use E19V.

Re: HP surestore ultrium 230
Finally HP discovered that we need three patches for the LTO to run without problems.
Thank you very much for your time, Leif
