HP TRAVAN 20 GB External

I have a 20GB external Travan tape drive trying to install it on a Windows 2k Prog system.
I have used the udated windows 2000 tape drivers for the device, but when the system boots up, eveything will freeze. I have physcially removed the tape deviced, rebooted, then all is fine. I have updated the windows 2k system to the latest Service PAck 4, and all fixes. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Re: HP TRAVAN 20 GB External

Chris,

Using an external Colorado tape drive in XP is a bit of a problem because XP does not support it and the drive was discontinued before XP was introduced. We have had a little success by doing the following.

This link takes you to the software you will need:\

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?locale=en_US&pnameOID=18516&taskId=135&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=63935&submit.y=11&submit.x=8тМй=en&cc=us&swEnvOID=209

note that the software version is Colorado Backup 9.1

And this link takes you to a document that tells you how to do it.

Re: HP TRAVAN 20 GB External

Thank you for the response. I am not not running Windows XP. The host is running Windows 2000 Prof. I have also tried installing the update you suggestted but the computer still freezes.

Re: HP TRAVAN 20 GB External

Sorry Chris, I didn't read your message carefully enough. The preferred version of software for win 2k is CBII version 9.0 and can be found at the same site. Check your version of Windows Media Player. If it happens to ver 6 you will need to upgrade it. I would first remove media player completely, install CBII, and when you get the drive working you can reinstall media player

Re: HP TRAVAN 20 GB External

I have done as you said in your last email. I have removed Windows Media player but the same problem still occurs. After the PC has deteceted the backup unit due to the installation of the correct driver, the computer will freeze. I am running Windows 2000 Profrssional with Service Pack 3. If I physically remove the tape unit, the computer will boot up and behave normally. How do I fix this problem to have a fully functional tape device?

Thanks

Re: HP TRAVAN 20 GB External

I suspect Win 2k is trying to load more than one driver. How many instances of these do you have on your system?

EPATAP2K.inf and EPATAP2K.SYS

Send an email to plad.tape@hp.com

I may be able to send you something that will work
