HP VS80 DLT backup running very slow on SCO unix
I just upgraded my tape drive on our SCO server to HP VS80 DLT. I am running cpio and it is running very slow. It takes almost a whole day to complete the backup which normally took 2.5 hours on the old SONY DDS-3 tape drive. When I do a tape status on the prompt, it does recognize the drive. When I stop the process in the middle, it does show me all the files it has backed up with no errors at all.
Any suggestions? Thanks

Re: HP VS80 DLT backup running very slow on SCO unix
Hi there.
Next check the drive for hardware compression on. Hardware conmpress should be on to avoid CPU load. If you have a lot of small files, the DLT drive will not go into streaming mode. It will write a file, repostion the tape, write the next file and so on.
