Re: HPE LTO-8 Ultrium 30750 SAS External Tape Drive - Lost data on cartridge
It is not possible to give a definite answer on what is happening here. There are a number of potential causes for what is being reported. I am not sure what the ISV software being used is, and what kind of logging may be available in the software, but I would check the logs to see what the history is for this tape cartridge. It appears this is a standalone tape drive, so the tape is being loaded by a human operator - is it possible the wrong tape was loaded into the drive?
Other causes I can think of off the top of my head:
1. Tape was erased, or written with a backup that was set to overwrite instead of append. (If this occurred, the data is most likely lost)
2. The ISV software database was corrupted, lost, or the tape was removed, and now the tape is appearing as a new tape. (If this is the case, you may be able to import the tape back and have the software recreate the database information by reading the tape - the data should not be lost).
My suggestion would be to contact the ISV to try to get an understanding of what may have occurred. Hopefully it is just a tape mixup that can be corrected, and the data wasn't erased or overwritten.

Re: HPE LTO-8 Ultrium 30750 SAS External Tape Drive - Lost data on cartridge
The issue is most likely with the backup SW DB which might have lost the information about the tape. The only option is to run re-inventory of the media in the app to see if it brings up any info. In nothing is reported on the media. It might be lost due to any other backup session utilizing this media and has overwritten the data or Damage to cartridge due to improper storage/securing of the media.
Kindly get in touch with the Backup SW support team for alternate options.
