HPE LTO 9 FC hardware error 31 b

Hi everyone

Recently i recived 4 faulty (from 108 installed ) LTO 9 fc 45000 (R6q74a) with error code " Hardware b(T10 31) " 

I read about it in ibm and t10 website : " Set when the tape drive fails its internal power-on self tests" . we reboot and power cycle  the tape drive and also updated the firmware but the issue did not resolved.

the library and tapes are new and didnot used. we RMA faulty tape drives and recived new ones .

We use MSL 6480 tape library.

I wonder what can we do to prevent this type of error or is it common to have this rate ( 3 percent ) of faulty tape drives.?

@elias1361, Sorry about the delayed response.

This is more of a Tape related error. If this is a new setup. Then we can try diff tapes and test it. Also make sure to change any one of the tape Brands and test it. Try using a non-expired cleaning media and see if the drive is able to read those tapes. 

These issues are mainly seen with improperly stored tapes or a dusty environment in which the drive operates.
