IBM AIX and tape copying - DAT - DLT
Just a quicky, as I have never attempted it myself, but is there a way of copying data between two tape units within AIX 4.3 or not? I am about to add a HP DLT unit, but wish to migrate older backups from the old DAT unit in it without having to dump it to disk. I know it is feasible, but wondered if anyone else had tried this and if there were any problems that I would benefit from knowing about beforehand!

Re: IBM AIX and tape copying - DAT - DLT
Hi there.
Depends on the backup software you have used.
If it was cpio or tar it should be possible with dd.
If you used any other software, check the software, whether it has a copy functionality
like OmniBack II.

If you just want to dump from one device to
the other, dd may be an answer. I'm not
gonna guess at the speed or lack of it,
but it would be a valid use of the command.

In AIX environment, you may try "tcopy" which can copy the entire tape from one tape device to another.
