Interpreting error results from running Library and Tape Tools Diagnostic
I have a client that has an HP Surestore Dat8 tape drive in a Windows NT 4.0 Server and all of a sudden she gets the "loading media" message and nothing happens (and no backups run successfully). She loaded and ran the Library and Tape Tools and got the following error:
"Write command failed at blcok 27".
Is there some where to research what this error might be related to?
Thanks.

Re: Interpreting error results from running Library and Tape Tools Diagnostic
I suspect they may have tried running the r/w test, and had the drive report a hard error writing a particular block.
I suggest running the device analysis test and the drive assessment test. The analysis test will review the drive logs for possible causes of errors. The assessment test will also review the logs as well as run a r/w test.
Has you client tried new media? Have they been cleaning the drive regularly? The device analysis test will check the cleaning history.

The journey IS the reward.
