MSL 6030 connected to a DL380 G3 reports transfer rate at 160MB/S Limited
Last Month Install an MSL 6030 Library in a HP Proliant server and the backups are taking too long and the data transfer for backups is kind of 4 MBps, so it is too low the performace, I think the problem is with library and the way that is cabling right now, attached a Photo to check it.
Can you tell me if the cabling is OK, please?
Do you know a link where I can Find a correct Cabling for SCSI Connections?
Thank You in Advance!
Best Regards,
Isaac Medrano

Which tape drives are in the library?
Your cabling looks OK, but may be somewhat of a limiting factor, for instance, two LTO-3 drives should be cabled each to its own port, not daisy chained... but even daisy-chained, should be able to do much better than 4MB/sec!
Here are the things I would look at:
1) Download and run tape drive performance tests in HP's Library and Tape tools (free at http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html ). These tests will tell you if the tape drives are performing up to their rated speed.
2) If the test above shows slow performance, use L&TT to generate a support ticket and post here.
3) If step 1 shows performance of the drives is OK, test your server to see how fast it can read data from the disk. I have had customers tell me in just the last month that they see performance of 5-10MB/sec from some Windows servers because of many small files, deeply nested directories, fragmentation, and contention from other processes. Post the results of L&TT's disk test here, and we'll know where to go.
One other thing -- I have also seen where a SCSI cable too long, or simply damaged, can drastically affect tape performance. Make sure your cable (server to tape library) is within spec and good.
