Netware 4.11 and DAT 40i drive

Server: COMPAQ ML370T
Config: P3-1G, 256 RAM, Ultra Wide 2 SCSI interface.
OS: Netware 4.11
Tape drive: HP StoreWorks DAT 40i

The previous DAT drive (HP DAT 24i) of my server was out of order, so I installed the new one (HP DAT 40i) as replacement.
When booting server, it recognizes the DAT drive at device no. 11 correctly, but when I run SBACKUP, it shows no tape drive has been installed. (I have copied the new driver overriden previous one before restarting server)

Any suggestion, please?

Re: Netware 4.11 and DAT 40i drive

I haven't used NW 4.11 for quite some time now, but here are my 2 cents:

You should try and use the NWPA architecture for your storage devices. If I remember correctly, this is supported even under NW 4.11. Remember to backup your STARTUP.NCF first! If you succeed, the 40i will be working using NWTAPE.CDM. May be you'll have to search for a newer version.

Kick SBACKUP and get a real backup solution. You should be able to get for instance a single server license of ARCserveIT 6.6 NW for a few bucks at eBay. You would have to solve your driver problem first though.

Re: Netware 4.11 and DAT 40i drive

I just found this thread on the Novell forums:

>i'm using Portlock to clone an old Netware 5.1 server (with old Sony DDS3
tape drive) to a new Dell server. the new server uses Dell DAT72 tape drive.
i think the DAT72 needs tsa5up17.exe.

So have a look at:
