OpenView Storage Data Portector 5.1 in Red Hat Enterprise 3
We use 5.1 here with the HP Unix machines, but are considering moving to a Red Hat Enterprise 3 system. Will 5.1 run on Red Hat Enterprise 3? (the documentation only lists RedHat 7.x)

Re: OpenView Storage Data Portector 5.1 in Red Hat Enterprise 3
Hi Matt,
At the moment HP Data Protector 5.1 (and 5.5) support on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 is limited to the 'Backup Agents (disk agents)' and 'Backup Device Server (media agents) including robotic control' components of HP Data Protector. The Manager-of-Managers, Graphical User Interface, Installation Server and Cell Manager (the central control point where Data Protector is installed) do not yet have Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 support.
What this means is that if you are looking for a complete transition of your backup environment over to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, including the server where the core Data Protector components are installed, Data Protector, at this time, would not be able to support the new environment.
However, if you are simply thinking of transitioning your HP Unix backup client systems to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, and keeping your existing HP Unix system running the Data Protector core components, then Data Protector is fully capable in continuing to backup and restore your new systems. In fact, you could potentially have your main Data Protector Server system running on HP Unix and all your other systems to be backed up running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, or any of the other supported operating system including Windows.
Here's the link for the latest support information for HP Data Protector. Look specifically at the 'Supported platform and integration matrices' PDF link for version 5.1:
http://www.openview.hp.com/products/datapro/spec_0001.html
Hope this helps.

Hi there...
Does anyone knows, when should be available Data Protector 6 ? And Which Data Protector Version should be supported by RedHat 4.?
Thank You.
