stop the "CA Brighstor Tape Engine" service and locate the following registry folder with regedt32.exe; "HKLM/Software/Computer Associates/Brighstor ARCserve Backup/Base/TapeEngine/DEVICE#/" -look "Info" value for which device# is your dlt has-, then ADD DWORD value
data type= Reg_Dword
valuename= DefaultBlockFactor
data= 7, Hex.
then start the "CA Brightstor Tape Engine service" and back-up your files :)

Re: Performance with VS80
Have you tried to use Windows Ntbackup? If yes and with d'same performance.
Try this:
1. Make sure that Removable Storage Manager Services is disabled (under computer mangt. console)if your utilizing 3rd party backup software.
2. Try to backup flat files or not in-use files.
3. (Optional)Your software is equiped with Backup to disk feature, why don'y you try this and compare the backup disk rate from your tape box speed.
Hope this helps,
Regards

Re: Performance with VS80
I'm having the same problem. I Tried the registry fix (add DefaultBlockFactor, value 7) but when tape engine starts it deletes that key. OS is windows 2000 server standard edition. Arcserver versio is 2000 advanced editon.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Performance with VS80
do not change registry when the service in running state. please try first stopping engine (be sure its stopped) then make registry change then start engine.
if you make registry change while the tape engine service in running state and restart the service, it overwrites the registry.
