Problem with an StorageWorks 1/8 G2 LTO 1 and ntbackup in W2K3 Server
Hi Guys!
I have a customer who is trying to backup his system with a HP StorageWorks
1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader and Windows 2003 Server's Backup Utility (ntbackup.exe).
Windows recognizes all the hardware, but the backup fails. Ntbackup.exe
starts processing files and then change its status for "Backing up files
from your computer..." but it doesn't process any other file, the remaining
time continues increasing until the aplication suddenly stops with the
message:
"The device reported an error on a requeste to write data to
media.
Error reported: Hardware failure.
There may be a hardware or media problem.
Please check the system event log for relevant failures"
In the System Event Log, I can an event from Lsi_scsi with ID 11:
"The device detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort2".
Another event is found too, id 129:
"The description for Event ID (129)in Source (Lsi_Scsi) cannot be found.
The local computer may not have the neccesary registry information or
message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may
be able to use /AUTOSOURCE=flag to retrieve this description; see Help
and support for details. The following information is part of the event:
\Device\RaidPort2"
I thoght it could be a scsi adapter problem but I ran L&TT
and all of them passed successfuly, I ran the library's internal test
and everythig is fine. It moves tapes, it writes to tapes and it reads
from tapes, so I not sure it is an scsi adapter problem.
I installed the latest firmwares and drivers for the library, drive, SHBA and server (PSP and Firmware CD).
Don't you know if this configuration is supported, backing up with
ntbakup.exe and a SW 1/8 G2 LTO-1?
The complete configuration information is:
Server: Proliant ML370 G5
O.S.: Windows Server 2003 SP2
Scsi Host Bus Adapter: Sp#403051-001 Op# 374654-B21
SW 1/8 G2 Produt Number: AH163A
I will appreciate any help!!!
Javier

We changed the device.
