Re: problem with e1200
I'd recommend updating to 5.3.0b. You can find it here:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software2/COL3566/co-12621-3/5.3.0b_fw_winston_x.dlx
Is this in a SAN, or direct attach fibre?
If SAN, what kind of hosts?
Library firmware should be updated to 4.23 and LTO1 drive firmware to E38W.
If you have this in a SAN with Windows hosts, are any of them running Compaq Insight Management Agents 6.XX? If so, you should disable the fibre array information agent, or upgrade to version 7.0.0.0.

Re: problem with e1200
I am also unable to update the firmware on my E1200 for some reason. I get a 0x2000 error. One slight difference is that my E1200 is Compaq branded and not HP, and is currently at version 0316 firmware.

Re: problem with e1200
The firmware update problem is a straight forward one.
NSR routers must have a minimum firmware version of 5.01.04 (0104 displayed by LTT) to update firmware via LTT. Firmware versions below 5.01.04 require firmware updates via serial or ftp methods.
You are on 4.03.16 firmware. You should use the serial connection or ftp to update the firmware. This should be covered in the users guide. You can get the non-LTT firmware file from the external web (under software and drivers), or use this short cut:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software3/COL3566/co-22038-1/5.4.25_fw_winston_x.dlx
I would definately update firmware before trying to troubleshoot problems any further. There's a good chance that there is a firmware fix for the connectivity problems you are seeing. If it still fails on the latest firmware, then we can look further at the router logs.

Re: problem with e1200
I have now updated the NSR E1200 to the latest fiemware version, But I am still experiencing the same problem.
The NSR, MSL5030 Changer and both drive mechs randomly disappear from the SAN attached servers. I have not yet managed to get a successful backup from 11 servers for the last two weeks because of this problem.
I get the following message in the W2k and W2003 event logs :-
The device 'StoreAge SVM SCSI Processor Device' (SCSI\Processor&Ven_StoreAge&Prod_SVM&Rev_0001\4&2b40ae32&0&110) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.
I have the switch completely zoned, and the servers using the "auto-assigned" scsi map on the NSR.

Re: problem with e1200
Sorry, I've been out of the office for a while. Are you still having problems? If so, let me know and we'll get this moved into the proper support/escalation process to get the issue(s) resolved.

Re: problem with e1200
I found that the HP Insight Management Agent (san storage information), was causing the problem. After I disabled the agent through "control panel, HP Management Agents, SAN Storage information) everything works fine. I no longer have a problem where the e1200 card dissapears.
If you are not running the HP Management Agents, then you have a different problem.

Re: problem with e1200
Thanks for the quick response on this.
I have disabled ALL of the insight manager functions and disabled the Windows 2003 removable storage service, but the device still disconnects & reappears at random. Has anybody else seen and fixed this problem?
Cheers, Steve

Re: problem with e1200
HP can tell you if your library is UK spec if you contact HP Technical support, and provide them with the serial number.
there are many of these grey imports around, and they need to be avoided like the plague.
We were shipped one under the belief that was legitimate stock, and had nothing but problems from start to finish, until we got it exchanged.
I presume you have tried all the above ???
Have you checked the e1200 log file contents, as this is how I found out that the Insight Agent was causing the problem.

Re: problem with e1200
I've attached a section of the e1200 log file. As you can see, the unit is indicating a "SCSI port 0 unexpected disconnect", which I'm sure can't be healthy - any suggestions would be appreciated.
I take the point about the "Grey Import" possibility & I'll chase it up.

Re: problem with e1200
Not sure about this one, However, Your Firmware level is well out of date, If I remember correctly, There are issues with this version. I would update the e1200 to 5.4 asap.
Use the Tape & Library tools utility to upgrade the Tape Mechs, Library and e1200 to the latest before trying anything else.
If I remeber rightly, you cannot upgrade your level of firmware to the latest by using Tape & library Tools Utility, You have to upgrade it via ftp using the e1200 web interface.
Good luck.

Re: problem with e1200
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Upgrading the e1200 firmware to the latest level 5.6.06 (using FTP) as per your suggestion has fixed the problems & the system now backs up reliably.
Many Thanks!!
Cheers, Steve
