Problem with TapeTools on Mandrake 10
I installed an Ulrium 215i on a Tekram 315U Controller in a Athlon 2800XP machine with Mandrake 10. I downloaded the tape tools and installed them.
When I choose the hardware scan in the tapetools, I get the following error message:
OC_Exception_c caught: Internal error (oc_devicemap_linux.cpp, 534, Unable to find the sg device file)
lsmod gives: (only the important modeules snipped)
sg 38044 0
st 38616 0
dc395x 34764 0
scsi_mod 114648 3 sg,st,dc395x
tapeinfo -f /dev/sg0 gives:
Product Type: Tape Drive
Vendor ID: 'HP '
Product ID: 'Ultrium 1-SCSI '
Revision: 'N2CG'
Attached Changer: No
SerialNumber: 'HU84H02087'
MinBlock:1
MaxBlock:16777215
SCSI ID: 3
SCSI LUN: 0
Ready: no
and /proc/scsi/scsi says:
Attached devices:
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 03 Lun: 00
Vendor: HP Model: Ultrium 1-SCSI Rev: N2CG
Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Can somebody give me an advice? I don't get the tapetools working :(

Re: Problem with TapeTools on Mandrake 10
Hi Nils,
LTT is not supported on Mandrake 1.0 as far as I am aware.
Current supported OS's are:
Windows (32 bit) - 95, 98, NT, 2000, ME, XP, 2003
Windows (64 bit) - XP & 2003
HP-UX (32 bit & 64 bit)- 11.x
Linux - RedHat 7.x, 8.x, 9.0, & Advanced Server
Linux (64 bit) - RedHat Advanced Server 2.1
NetWare - 5.x, 6.0, 6.5
OpenVMS - 7.3-1 & 7.3-2 w/ 3.5 HotFix
My guess is that you have downloaded the Redhat version and the device file structure that LTT is expecting is not matched in Mandrake Linux, I am not a Multi vendor Linux Guru, so this is only a guess :)
If you need to use LTT on your Ultrium 215 to update firmware etc then I am afraid you will have to connect it to a LTT supported OS machine.
Cheers,
Dave Dewar

Re: Problem with TapeTools on Mandrake 10
OK, I reinstalled the machine with RH9 and recompiled the kernel with the SCSI support for the controller. During bootup I get the message:
DC395x (TRM-S1040) SCSI driver 1.41, 2002-06-21
DC395x: Used settings: AdapterID=07, Speed=0(20.0MHz), DevMode=0x57
DC395x: AdaptMode=0x0f, Tags=4(16), DelayReset=1s
DC395 : Connectors: int50 Termination: Auto Low High
DC395: Performing initial SCSI bus reset
DC395x (TRM-S1040): 1 adapters found
scsi1 : Tekram DC395U/UW/F DC315/U V1.41, 2002-06-21
Vendor: HP Model: Ultrium 1-SCSI Rev: N2CG
Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
DC395x: Shutdown ..<6>scsi : 1 host left.
and now /proc/scsi/scsi is empty :( To me it seems the the DC395x is shut down (as the message says...), is there an obvious reason for this?

Re: Problem with TapeTools on Mandrake 10
Hi Nils,
I don't know why your system is shutting down here. As a check, could you disconnect the tape drive and reboot to help work out whether its a HBA/OS issue or some tape drive related issue.
The other thing I noticed was that the version of current firmware you have in your drive N2CG is unusual and quite old. If we can get LTT working then you should be able to update the firmware to a later version.
Cheers,
Dave Dewar
