Problems with data compression.

I have a TC 2110 with updated B.I.O.S.
with one SCSI controler Adaptec 29160 updated as well and a C5683A updated to C305 firmware and I am using the last version of HP L&TT downloaded from web.

At windows hardware drivers property tab, I can't change the options, like hardware compression is off.

What can I do to change these options? There is a specific software to change this or, I don't know, anything that you have to help me on this troubleshooting I'll apreciate.

Thanks

Re: Problems with data compression.

Hi,

I am not sure what your problem is here Carlos, are you having a problem with hardware compression when you perform backups to your tape drive? Not getting the expected amount of host data onto a data cartridge or is it purely an observation on your part within the driver tab before trying a backup?

What operating system are you running, I have looked on my win2k test system and can find no tick box within the driver property tab that refers to compression.

Hardware compression should be on by default within the tape drive. There are some switches on the bottom of the drive, 2 of these control compression, switches 1 and 2. The standard shipment configuration is to have switches 1 and 2 set to on.

The link below describes the function of the switches on the bottom of the product.

Switches 1 and 2 control how data compression is enabled and controlled by host. Switch 1 and 2 set to on and mean data compression enabled and under host control so it could be that your host is disabling data compression for you. Setting switch 2 to off will enable data compression without host control, it will always be on.

You can check the status of these switches and what compression mode the drive thinks it is in by viewing a support ticket using LTT.

Next, you can use LTT to test data compression for you. If you go under the tests section there is a test called data compression that uses a known 2:1 compression data set to verify data compression is working properly.
