Replace DAT 24e with DAT 40e

On a Novell 5.0 server running Arcserve 6.6 I have replaced a HP SureStore DAT 24e with a 40e. The server has older DB50 connectors and I had to get a SCSI III to SCSI II connector cable to hook the DB68 to DB50 connectors. It a proliant 1600 server and there is a external SCSI hard storage box between the tape drive and the server. I match the SCSI ID with the old unit and the terminiator is the in place. The problem is that ARCSERVE is getting a "E21107 (00) [02] SCSI I/O Error -19" and fails to load remaining NLMs. Should I be able to do a straight swap of the two tape drives with out any reconfiguring?

Re: Replace DAT 24e with DAT 40e

DAT40e is LVD device, but DAT24e is SE device. Although DAT40 should work in SE mode. Make sure your cable is not damaged and correct one, and you use correct LVD/SE type terminator on the drive. The best is to install Adaptec 29160 for this drive. See http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50063.html
