replacing autoloader

I am replacing an an external autoloader with a new one. I am now using the DAT 72x6e. I am having problems with my SCSI not detecting the BIOS. Any help?

Thanks

Re: replacing autoloader

I can just suggest to check for any bent/broken pins, this is ususaly a cause of this behaviours. Also, you do not explain what was your previous autoloader, I suppose it was a LVD or SE one, because if you HBA is HVD, it is incompatible with the 72x6

Re: replacing autoloader

my old drive was an external dat autoloader 24x6. as for the rest of your message, I have no idea ("I suppose it was a LVD or SE one, because if you HBA is HVD, it is incompatible with the 72x6") what any of that means.

I have checked the pins and they look good.

Re: replacing autoloader

if you had previously a 24x6, this is a SE interface narrow (8bit) device. the controller should be compatible with the new 72x6, but may have degraded performance if it is only SE and not SE/LVD because 72x6 is a LVD(Low Voltage Differential) (HVD mean Hight Voltage Differential and is not electricaly compatible with LVD and SE interfaces)
In each case the device should appear at boot time and in the bios of the HBA (Host Bus Adapter).
If your controller is a Narrow one (aha2940 or similar) e sure to set the scsi id to a value below 7, or it will not be scanned .
Also be sure to connect the scsi cable to the correct port on the server, it is easy to connect it to the raid controller instead of the scsi controller.

Re: replacing autoloader

I am not sure I know how to do everything you siad. When I reboot the server adn the device, I get an error on startup that says "Time Out failure during SCSI Inquiry Command". Then it tries to rescan. I have to turn the device off and everything is fine. I am totally lost as to what you said I should. Can you help me out with more details?
