Requirements for Colorado Travan 8GB, internal, tape drive under Windows XP.

G'day all.

I'm trying to read some ancient (1998) archive tapes.  I'm having intermittent problems with HP Colorado Backup II just hanging, usually at the start of operations on a tape.  I can't kill the task (why doesn't it appear under Applications in the Task Manager?) nor can I do a normal shutdown.  I have to power off the computer.

The following link describes a situation which is either mine or very much like mine:
                 http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=63937&prodNameId=12507&swEnvOID=24&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=co168en

My question is: Is it OK to download and install this driver (described as a Windows NT driver) under Windows XP?

Thanks,  . . .  Alwyn F-J

PS  I see there's also a reference at the HP site  to a firmware upgrade, which may be relevant (see http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=63937&prodNameId=12507&swEnvOID=24&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=co110en).  I'll check that out too.
