SAN Tape device and zoning.

Generally speaking.

If you have a storagebox and a tape device on the SAN connected to a host via a switch, and the host has 2 HBA's and each hba is dedicated to either the disk array or the tape device via zoning, but the host can't see the tape device in Device Manager in W2K.

Is it the zoning that's configured wrongly, or does W2K get confused using 2 hba's, on for tape and one for disk ?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated .

Re: SAN Tape device and zoning.

Christian,
if you really do not see any devices in device manager which can be tape drive (devices with exclamation marks, for example) then there's a connectivity problem - w2k can not see tape drive for some reason. It can be zoning, it can be damaged FC cable, bad FC port etc.
As soon as we're talking about zoning I assume you use switch. The log into switch and check if switch sees host and library (for brocade - switchshow and supportshow). If switch sees them, then it's most probably zoning issue (after building new zoning setup to not forget to activate it). If not, then troubleshoot corresponding FC channel

Re: SAN Tape device and zoning.

Apparently the connected devices log correctly into the switch. The host is just unable to see the tape device.

My apparent thought was that something is wrong with the zoning, but could it be some incorrect setting on the bridge between the tape device and the switch ?

But then again, if there's an incorrect setting on the bridge, it probably wouldn't log into the switch correctly or would it ?

Re: SAN Tape device and zoning.

Of course, SCSI-to-FC bridge may need configuration. Procedure depends on which bridge do you have. Better refer to its docs
