SCSI Errors on Tape Library
Greetings,
Using an HP MSL5000 Library with Commvault back up software we seem to be getting the same errors, However I cannnot find the source of them asn was wondering if anyone could assist, I have included them below
These are the errors they were seeing from
ILLEGALREQUEST 0x05
24 00 INVALID FIELD IN CDB
UNITATTENTION
0x06
28 00 NOT READY TO READY CHANGE, MEDIUM MAY HAVE CHANGED. Doors opened or closed.
RECOVEREDERROR 0x01
5D 00 FAILURE PREDICTION THRESHOLD EXCEEDED
NOSENSE 0x00
00 02 END-OF-PARTITION/MEDIUM DETECTED
BLANKCHECK 0x08
00 05 END-OF-DATA DETECTED
NOTREADY 0x02
04 83 Aisle power is disable; a door could be open.
x6 x28 x8D

3B 0E MEDIUM SOURCE ELEMENT EMPTY
MEDIUMERROR 0x03
0C 00 WRITE ERROR

Most of these define what is going on. So I'm not sure what you mean when you say what is causing them.
05 24 00 - Invalid req. Means that a command was issued that was invalid.
Example would be issue a move media command from a slot OR DRIVE THAT DOESN'T HAVE MEDIA IN IT????
The NO SENSE and Blank check indicate that the tape is full. And needs to unload/load a second tape. (Tape Spanning) on a backup.
The media erros, Write,read, or unrecovered read could be an indication that the drive needs to be cleaned. Or that the media has an issue.
Not Ready Cleaning cartridge installed. Says that a cleaning operation is taken place.
So for the most part these are informational messages being logged by comvault.
