StorageWorks DLT VS 40/80

We just bought a new HP StorageWorks DLT VS 40/80. And to save money I was able to receive the tape for another server that has been remove from service.

But whenever I put the tape in the drive it is ejected and the light with the triangle and an exclamation mark flash. I have try some Fujifilm DLTtape IV and Compaq DLTtape IV(those were used one). As for a test, because I taught the tape drive might be defective, I put in a new one... and it is working.

So can maybe someone help me,
Thank you,
Martin

Re: StorageWorks DLT VS 40/80

If your used tape was written in a DLT80, DLT70 etc it will not be reconized in a DLT1 drive (DLT1, DLT VS80
Although these drives are all DLT technology - the DLT80 will write to the tape differently then the DLT VS80 (one writes in straight lines while the other writes at an angle)
hope this helps

If you wish to use DLTIV media which has been written to by a DLT7000 or DLT8000 then it must be degaussed first. You need a powerful tape degausser though.

Hi,

Thank you for your fast answer...

But can someone explain me on how can I do a degauss on one of my tape. Do I need some other machine or does a tape backup is able to do the job.

Thank you,
Martin.

Re: StorageWorks DLT VS 40/80

It takes special equipment to degauss tapes and just buying a magnetic eraser from Radio Shack will NOT suffice. There are a number companies that can perform this service. search under "tape degaussing" in Yahoo or Google and you will find what you want
