I'm running a Windows 2000 Advanced Server Sp4 with latest patches.

My SureStore DLT Autoloader 718 recently stopped working. When the machine reboots, I get the following error in the system log:

The backup software, Veritas BackupExec, simply states the device is offline. The autoloader no longer shows up in Device Manager.

I got the drive working; although, I'm not sure what I did to correct the problem.

I switched out the SCSI host adapter with a spare. During the BIOS boot up, the machine hung several times when trying to detect a device. I switched the original SCSI host adapter back in and everything started working again.

First of all check SCSI cables and terminators. Are there any bent/shorted pins? Cable is damaged? Replace cable and terminator

I spoke too soon.

The device is detected, but it is not working correctly. In the event log, I get the following system error on reboot:

There was also an application popup I failed to mention. I've used cleaner tapes before, but it was configured within Veritas. From the message, it seems Windows itself is looking for it.

Ok, there's short jumper SCSI cable between drive and changer at the rear. Check it adn replace for troubleshooting purposes.
Another scenario: disconnect autoloader off the SCSI card and try operating loading/unloading tapes from its control panel - will it work?
