surestore dlt vs80

I have this tape unit and I use tapes of 80 gb, but so much in windows 2000 server, like in xp professional like the windows 2003 server he doesn't make me the compression 2:1 and alone it admits me 40 gb, that is to say without compression.
somebody recommends myself some software that is not that of windows.
thank you.

Re: surestore dlt vs80

I native backups in windows (a version of veritas backup) should allow for compression. Look under the advanced options, but the default is compression on.

If you install HP Library & Tape Tools (www.hp.com/support/tapetools) you can view a support ticket (select support tool, view support ticket). For the DLT-type drive, the compression info should be in the device analysis section of the support ticket. It should tell you what the compression ratio was. If it is anything other than 1:1, then compression was enabled. Note: you need to collect the support ticket while the tape is still loaded after a backup.

It is possible that the data you are backing up does not compress well. Applications and images typically do not not compress much, if at all.
The journey IS the reward.
