Hello all,
My father is having a problem with his tape backup. Unfortunately, I don't know much about the hardware or software except that its a unix machine. The drive is an HP surestorage 2000 drive. It has been in the machine for a few years and never had any problems. Just the other day when he was trying to run some tasks, he received the message:
Tar cannot open /dev/rst0
We have been unable to trouble shoot. Neither of us are unix guys. He tried calling HP support and they told him they no longer off phone support for this drive. He was directed to use their website. I'm not even in the same state but I'm trying to help him out. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Greg

Solution
Did anything change from when it was working to when it stopped?
Is this an internal or external drive?
Did he try cycling power?
Does it load/unload tapes without problems?e
With a tape loaded, what do the front panel LEDs show (i.e. which ones are on or flashing)?
What type of unix (e.g. HP-UX, Solaris, etc)?
(sorry for all the questions, but that will in understanding what is wrong, and how to resolve it).

Re: Surestore Tape 2000 - tar cannot open /dev/rst0
Hi David,
Thanks for the quick response. I just talked to my dad and apparently its all fixed. The company that he bought the system from were able to get him up and running. Thanks though for your response.
Regards,
Greg
