I have an HP 4 mil tape drive, product number C2983D. Does there exist a driver that would allow me use this tape drive on a system loaded with NT Server 4.0 (SP6)? Thanks.

There is no driver required for NT. Any backup software program that will talk to a SCSI tape drive will work with this. I checked the HP partsurfer and the driver library and there was nothing listed.

Hi Thomas,

Never heard of this model of drive but you might want to check what inquiry string it banners on the bus during boot. If it is a generic drive, you should be able to use the hpdat.sys driver for NT. You can download it from

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/software/dds_nt40.exe.html

Please note that some backup applications (ArcServe) require this driver to be be de-installed as they use their own driver)

Hope this helps you out.

Cal.
