Tape stuck in Compaq SDLT 110
After reading that the SDLT 110 could "read only" a DLTIV tape, I put one in the drive and am having problems.
Since inserting the DLT IV tape, all 3 lights on the SDLT unit are blinking. If I push the eject button, it will go back to a flashing green light briefly, then back to all 3 lights flashing. I've come to the conclusion that I have to take the drive apart to remove the tape and will try it tomorrow. But, my question is does the DLT IV tape have to be set to "write-protected" before being inserted in the SDLT drive or was this just a fluke?

Re: Tape stuck in Compaq SDLT 110
Bruce,
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/sdlt110220/qa.html
"Q: Is the SDLT 110/220 GB DLT drive compatible with media from my 20/40, 35/70, or 40/80 DLT tape drives? A: Yes, but only with the DLT IV media in "Read-Only" mode".
I believe drive by itself detects that tape is written on DLT8000 drive and uses this tape in write-protected mode;
http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/products/storagemedia/tape_dlt/compatibility.html
http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/products/storagemedia/superdlt/faqs.html
"Q: Will my DLTIV data cartridges work in my Super DLTtape drives and libraries? A: SDLT drives contain an additional read head especially designed for DLTtape IV media. This means that data written on DLTIV media can be read on a SDLT 220/320 drive or library. This backwards compatibility is read only. Your SDLT cannot write to DLTIV media"
If tape is really stuck in the drive and you can not remove it by pressing eject button (try pressing and holding - I believe it will act as DDS initiating emergency eject procedure) then there was a hardware fault
Hope it helps
Eugeny
