TL891 Problems, help please

I recently received a TL891 unit. The back says: 120876-B22. It has 2 7000 drives in it.

I have some first generation 6400R servers and DL580's. My first question is:

Can the unit be hooked up directly to the on-board SCSI ports and detected, and if no, what card do I need?

I have some alot of contradictions on this forum as to HV vs. LV, what cards etc etc. If someone has one of these servers connected to the TL891, I would be in your debt for a quick response to my email address.

Tired, frustrated,
Jason

Re: TL891 Problems, help please

We had a TL891 attached to a ML530. We did not attach it to the onboard SCSI for a couple reasons. One, it needs dual channel and the other was performance. I am not sure that you could not make it work on a single channel controller. We attached it to a RAID controller. This was the top of the line RAID controller of the ML530 generation timeframe. I am not sure of the model number of this card. I am sure any RAID controller would work. Hope this helps.

Re: TL891 Problems, help please

Thanks for the response.

I tried connecting it to both the onboard SCSI ports and array controllers. Last night I did some more research and it looks like I may need a Adaptec 2944-UW (Differential) SCSI card to make this work?!!??!

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks again,
Jason

Re: TL891 Problems, help please

Yes I can confirm that based on your PartNumber, the SCSI interface is:

Interface Fast Wide, Differential (HVD), SCSI-2, with 68HD connectors

Then you need a HVD controller, and a 2944 will allow you to see the drives.
Compaq Library Adapter Dual Channel Ultra HVD - 157299-B21 was also a supported HVD controller supported by this library
