Travan 8GB internal tape restoration
My client needs to have his data restored. He backed it onto a Travan 4/8GB tape with his Windows 98 SE OS machine. I realize that this drive has been discontinued for several years and replacements are impossible to find. The problem with the drive is that although a Winodws 98 SE machine sees it, it won't retension and when I request and refresh on the media view, I get themessage "backup device reported an unrecoverable hardware error 05-12-23-00-40A0" I have access to a 5GB Travan but when I put the 8GB tape in it, I get an incomaptible media message. Is thre a way to restore the data on the 8GB tape with a 5GB tape drive? Or, is there a way to resolve the hardware error message>
Thanks for your help.

Upgrade the 5gb to 8gb, see my experience
on thread "upgrade 5gb to 8gb when
units had firmware 2.08".
