Ultrium 3000 and Ultrium 3280 - What's the big difference?

Apart from differences in Form Factor, I do not see other obvious reasons as to why HP created one that is 1U and 3U? I mean if I'm customer, why would I choose the bigger one against the smaller one when both speed and capacity are equal? I don't see the rationale behind the architectures.

Hi,

In the earlier generations there used to be performance difference between the Full Height(FH) and Half Height(HH) drives and so the HH drives were cost effective as they perform at half the FH drives. With the newer generations the difference in performance has been reduced largely but they are still continuing to produce the HH drives to fulfill the requirements of some specific customer requirement like space in side the server, for specific models of libraries etc

Agreed,

It should be the same drive inside with different face for users with specific needs

You can go for half height drives without any second thought
