Using DDS-2 tapes on DSS-1 unit

I??ve got a lot of DDS-2 tapes and I have an HP SureStore 2000 external. Is it possible to use DDS-2 tapes (making holes or closing them) on this unit?
Thank you!!

Look here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?locale=en_US&objectID=lpg50116&locale=en_US&prodSeriesId=42846&prodTypeId=12169 .
Of course if tape does not match compatibility criteria you can try closing or making holes, but even if you'll be able accessing tape after this I would not consider backups in such combination (DDS1 drive to DDS2 tape) as reliable

Fernando,

I have 3 x HP9000s of which 1 uses DDS-2 tapes and the other 2 DDS-1 tapes.
I found that I can not use DDS-2 tapes on DDS-1 tape drive and v.v
Bosses don't undestand..HP does

Re: Using DDS-2 tapes on DSS-1 unit

Dear Fernando,

I do not suggest you change the holes to 'fool' the drive into thinking its a DDS-1 tape. The drive alters the tension and all sorts of parameters according to the tape type. DDS-1 drives have no knowledge of the thinner DDS-2 media. You will probably find you have all sorts of tape handling problems. DDS-1 tapes are pretty cheap now.

Re: Using DDS-2 tapes on DSS-1 unit

In fact, I???ve done the prove comparing the combination of holes between two tapes, closing and making holes and the unit recognises the tape but is incapable of, for example, formatting the tape.
So I will keep those DDS2 tapes for an appropriate unit!!
Thanks for all!!
