VS160 Issues
Hi!
I've recently installed a HP DLT VS160 Internal drive, along with an Adaptec 19160 Ultra-160 SCSI card. I'm sure our SCSI is properly terminated, and that power supply is fine but we're having problems with our backups.
The tape tools reports that both media and tape drive are fine but when I attempt to start a backup (through the NTBackup tool), I get the following errors:
---
Error: The device reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported: Bad data.
There may be a hardware or media problem.
Please check the system event log for relevant failures.
The operation was ended.
--- and ---
Error: C: is not a valid drive, or you do not have access.
---
I've tried using brand new media as well as media I've run a few tests on before and I have had no luck. The backup fails at different points along the process -- anywhere between 30 seconds to 10 minutes in.
I do think the RSM service is turned off by default, but I've also had issues with backup software that, as far as I know, does not rely on it (Symantec's Backup Exec)
I've replaced the default windows drivers with the latest ones from HP, and re-flashed the latest firmware.
I have completely run out of ideas now, so I hope anyone can be of any help.
