vs80 Tape Drive compatibility

We have an internal DLT drive using DLT IV tapes in our Dell server and BackupExec software. We are looking at getting an external vs80 DLT drive as a backup for our internal tape drive - will the tapes created on our internal DLT drive be able to be read and restored from using the vs80 drive (again using Backup Exec to restore)?

I have seen a message saying that the vs80 will not read tapes formatted on another DLT drive.

Re: vs80 Tape Drive compatibility

Hi,

The VS80 drive can only read tapes written on a DLT40 drive or a DLT1 drive. It cannot read tapes written on a DLT70 or DLT80 drive.

See the table at the bottom of this link for more details.

Re: vs80 Tape Drive compatibility

Thanks for the quick reply. The tape drive in the Dell is a Quantum DLT7000. I'll go and find out if that matches one of the tape drives metioned in the articles you pointed out.
