What is the difference between media and devices?

Hi,
This may sounds like a stupid question but what is the difference? I assume the devices is the tape drive for example and the media is....stored in Data Protector Express? Is it a kind of index? Or is the media actually on the tape?

I thought I had this product figured out but I clearly don't.

All I am trying to do is make it so that it does an incremental backup of the D drive of our server every day and then on a Friday takes a full backup and overwrites any previous media. There are 4 Friday discs. I have tried naming the discs such as Monday, Tuesday etc but I don't know if this is the best method.

Do I have to do a full backup and then an incremental or can I start straight on an incremental?

Every time I do a full backup it works fine but then when I try and do an incremental it ejects the disc. I think it might be because I have told it to look for the media in a different location.

Any help or answers to the above questions would be really appreciated.

not entirely sure of the the question. The device is the tape drive itself, the media is the tape the data is stored on. Once you do full backup you should be able to do incremental with no problem

Re: What is the difference between media and devices?

Sorry, I was just writing down my thoughts and it probably didn't make much sense.

You have answered my main question though.

I was just confused by how the rotation system worked but now that I understand what the media is I think I know what I was doing wrong.

Thanks for the reply.
