hello
I have some questions about HPE StoreOnce Cloud Bank Storage Read/Write for Gen4 Systems 1TB LTU (BC012A) .
Cloud Bank Storage is a feature that enables StoreOnce Catalyst targets to be created on local and cloud-based object storage that is external to the StoreOnce System.
1- When I buy the BC012A license, do I need to buy an account on sites like Amazon or... or can I start the cloud-Bank with the same license?
2-What is the concept of local Object storage in the cloud Bank Storage?
For example, if we have an MSA device with 10TB Capacity and we connect it to the server on which we installed VSA through FC, we can create a local cloud-Bank by applying this license(BC012A), or we need to purchase an account on the Amazon website or Azure or AWS. Is It The local Object Storage means ? Can MSA or other storage be used as a cloud-Bank Storage without purchasing an Amazon or Azure Or .. account?
3 -Is this license only installed on VSA or is it also used for StoreOnce hardware?
4- this license is optional. Do I have to buy a 4TB basic license to use the cloud-Bank feature or is there no need for it?
5- Cloud-Bank only use for catalyst service. Is the management of backup and data transfer from the first device( StoreOnce Or VSA ) to the Second Device ( cloud-Bank Storage ) done by the Backup software? for example Net-Backup or veeam Backup?

Re: Query: HPE StoreOnce Cloud Bank Storage Read/Write for Gen4 Systems 1TB LTU (BC012A)
Thank you for your answer.
But I did not find the answer to my question In this links,
only the necessary prerequisites for setting up VSA are given and the recommended device for use is called Storeonce 3620. But you did not talk about the concept of cloud-Bank and its types and required licenses. Also, the answer to this question is whether it is possible to manage backup and transfer it with backup software or not.

Hello @mdmd,
That is an automated system recommendation. Please ignore if it is not relevant to your query. I will try to check and get back to you tomorrow.

SolutionHello @mdmd,
Below are the answers for your question 1 and 3. I will come back with answers to other queries:
1- When I buy the BC012A license, do I need to buy an account on sites like Amazon or... or can I start the cloud-Bank with the same license?
A – The license will be cloud vendor independent. The same license holds good if your cloud vendor is AWS, Azure or any other. But the license will not include cloud subscription. You must have an active cloud account and subscription with your vendor.
3 -Is this license only installed on VSA or is it also used for StoreOnce hardware?
A - Documents confirm that the license (BC012A) is compatible for StoreOnce VSA and the hardware model StoreOnce 3620. If you have already gathered the license, it will be tagged to one system serial number. You can’t transfer to another hardware system (but can be transferred between the VSAs). For more details, you can raise query in HPE license portal - https://buy.hpe.com/in/en/options/licenses-certificates/c/65002?q=

Hello
Thank you for your follow up.
I am waiting for answers to other questions.
And regarding question number 2, I would appreciate it if you could provide explanations about the possibility of creating a local cloud -Bank on the storeonce or vsa only with BC012A license .

Hello @mdmd,

For example, if we have an MSA device with 10TB Capacity and we connect it to the server on which we installed VSA through FC, we can create a local cloud-Bank by applying this license(BC012A), or we need to purchase an account on the Amazon website or Azure or AWS. Ans:-
Object Storage in CloudBank – Here the backups in Catalyst stores are the object storage. The copy will be stored in CloudBank, in your cloud account with the provider. What you store in local catalyst store will be replicated to cloudbank. You need to subscribe the cloud storage space separately from the provider. Cloudback license will not include the subscription charges. Local object means the backups in StoreOnce Catalyst store. You can’t use MSA or any other storage as cloudbank. It must be the actual cloud account with AWS, Azure etc. To store replicated copy of catalyst store, you can use catalyst replication feature.

Re: HPE StoreOnce Cloud Bank Storage Read/Write for Gen4 Systems 1TB LTU (BC012A)
Hello @mdmd,
4- this license is optional. Do I have to buy a 4TB basic license to use the cloud-Bank feature or is there no need for it?
Ans:- VSA comes with 90n days evaluation license. To continue to use VSA after 90 days, you need to purchase min 4TB basic license. That is mandatory. Cloudbank (BC012A) license is optional on top of the VSA basic license.
5- Cloud-Bank only use for catalyst service. Is the management of backup and data transfer from the first device( StoreOnce Or VSA ) to the Second Device ( cloud-Bank Storage ) done by the Backup software? for example Net-Backup or veeam Backup?
Ans:- Yes. Cloudbank will be used only for Catalyst stores services. The cloudback replication from first device( StoreOnce Or VSA ) to the Second Device ( cloud-Bank Storage) will be done by StoreOnce (VSA or hardware). However backup softwares may use API to perform this. For example, HPE RMC backup software provides you backup policies like Bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Here the Platinum backup policy includes cloudbank copy. That works hand in hand with StoreOnce cloudbank feature.

Re: Query: HPE StoreOnce Cloud Bank Storage Read/Write for Gen4 Systems 1TB LTU (BC012A)
Hello @mdmd
Yes. If your backup software supports cloudback feature, it is possible to manage the cloudbank copies from the backup software.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: Query: HPE StoreOnce Cloud Bank Storage Read/Write for Gen4 Systems 1TB LTU (BC012A)
Here is what is meant by Cloud Bank Metadata. Is this the same as Local Cloud_Bank?
Do we need to get a Catalyst Copy from the Catalyst Store to use Cloud-Bank? Or can the information stored on the Catalyst Store be directly transferred to Cloud-Bank?

Re: Query: HPE StoreOnce Cloud Bank Storage Read/Write for Gen4 Systems 1TB LTU (BC012A)
Hello @mdmd,
This diagram is just for demonstration purpose on how cloudbank works. Practically you don't have to do anything about catalyst copy. As you rightly asked, the details stored on the Catalyst Store will be directly transferred to Cloud-Bank.
