Hi All,
I have an older p4500 (CMC version 9.5) that is out of warranty and needs to have the cach battery replaced. In the process of researching this issue I found out that a failover manager was never installed.
I attempted to install a Hyper-V FOM (version 9.5) and add it to my management group. The install went fine and I was able to find the FOM from the CMC console. When I tried to add it to the management group it hung. After 10 to 15 minutes I cancelled the operation.
Now the FOM is in the managmenet group and is showing the following error: "The FOM reports that it is part of a management group, but the management group does not agree. Power down the FOM permanently and restart the CMC. Install a new FOM and add it to the management group. "
I tried to remove the FOM and I get the following error: Could not find the system with serial number *****. "Use the Find menu to search the network for the system."
I have read a myriad of articles and at this point I am not sure how to proceed.
Do I powerdown and install a new FOM?
Do I follow the instructions in https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=mmr_kc-0129243 and manually remove the FOM from the management group and then try to re-add it to the mangement group?
Is it a networking/packet size issue? The FOM is connected into the same switches that the SAN and Hosts are connected. And as far as I can tell jumbo packet size is turned on the NIC. The SANS, hosts and CMC are communicating normally.
Any advice would be appreciated!

SolutionHi,
You can try removing the FOM from console.
Please go to console of FOM. Type start on console when prompted and it will take you to login screen.
Fromt the login screen go to general settings and then choose remove from Management group.
It will prompt if you really want to remove with a generic message that it will lead to loss of data for FOM.
Click on ok and then check if FOM gets removed from MG in CMC.
Based on the description shared by you, it seems like an issue with networking configuration of the FOM.
Speaking about packet size jumbo frames is not supported by FOM, so if you using it, please make it default.
Regards,
Mukesh

Re: Failover Manager - error FOM is part of the management group but the group does not agree
Mukesh,
Thanks for your help I was able to remove the failed FOM from the management group. And, after several failed attempts, was able to add a new FOM to the management group.
