HP Storage Works P4300 - Overprovisioning

Hello,

We have an Overprovisioning problem with our HP Storage Works P4300 G2 SAN Storage System.
The system is connected via ISCSI to 2 HP ProLiant ML350 G6 Servers running XenServer 7.0.

Free disk space has shrunk a lot in the last 6 months.
The current employment rate is 94%.

In reality, the space used by the application servers is lower than that used on SAN.

On the application servers are visible three volumes where the total sum reaches about 4 TB instead of SAN are allocated 5.6 TB.

On SAN there are three volumes, two of which have the provisioning space lower than the consumed space.

How can I reduce the overall occupied space and lower the occupancy rate?

Thanks for your suggestions, they are welcome !!

Hi Kleefa,

When you delete files from the host end, the space wont get reclaimed from the SAN end automatically .

You need to enable space reclamation feature on the StoreVirtual Management Group.

If you have that feature enabled, you can run the run the unmap command.

In ESXi, we can run the unmap command to get the space reclaimed.  Not sure about the XenServer.

You can refer the below advisory for enabling it and requirment for enabling space reclamaiton

You  aloso have the volumes overprovisoned

Re: HP Storage Works P4300 - Overprovisioning

Hi Vipin ,

Thank you very much for your suggestion.

I read the instructions to use the Space Reclamation.

The problem is that I should update LeftHand OS to Version 12.0. I have "inherited" myself despite this old installation and currently I have version 9.5.10. of the operating system.

I think at this point I do not have to save the virtual machines on an external storage. Destroy and recreate the volumes on SAN, then hang them up via ISCSI to XenServer.
In any case, unfortunately, I have to foresee a stop in production systems.
