P4500 - Volume Offline
Hi,
We have had a P4500G2 Storage until a few weeks ago. "All" needed data were moved to a new storage system. But now I need some more data from the old storage. So we've restarted all nodes (ex. the first node of the first side - it was allready cleared).
We have had 2 sites with 7 nodes each. In this management group we've one volume (called RAID-510) in RAID-10 (2-Way Mirror).
All is up and running, but the volume was set to "Offline". The Status is "Resyncing (Calculating%), Not Available, Unrecoverable I/O" and I've a Critical Alarm "The volume 'RAID-510' status in cluster 'MyClusterName' is 'Offline'.".
The "Unrecoverable I/O" can come from the NICs. Each Node has two NICs witch are bonded, but we've connected only one nic each actually.
What can I do to get it back online?
Thank in advance
Best regards,
Reto

Re: P4500 - Volume Offline
Volume will go to Unrecoverrable I/O state when there are Unreadable Blocks. This is because the surviving disk had a bad sector when the other drive fails or has bad sectors.
Ideally we will always recommend to back up the data and recreate the Volume. However as you mentioned this was moved to new Storage and you have now got them back online to get the data, the only option now would be to run a URE Utility. This Utility works only on the newer versions of the LHOS like 12.5 and above.
Note : This tool cleans up URE pages, it does not recover the data. The data is these pages is lost. The URE pages are blanked out, so the data in them is gone. If these pages were containing user data, it means that some files are corrupted of some volume structures can be damaged. Hence, it is suggested to run windows file checker or VMware VOMA tool.
Once the command is run, you may assign the volume back to the host and access it.
Hence request you to log a Case with the Support Team to assist you with running the Utility.

Re: P4500 - Volume Offline
@Rachna-K Thank you for your answer.
Where can I find this "URE Utility"?
Because the Storage is not productive anymore, we've actually no support contract. So I can't contact HPE support

Re: P4500 - Volume Offline
URE Utility can be shared however to run this, we need to log into the back end.
Only Support Team can generate the Password to log into the root. of the Node.
