Storevirtual 4000 End of Life Notice

Does anyone have any information on the end of life notice for the StoreVirtual 4000 line that HP recently posted?

I thought it may just be a current model refresh, but it looks like all models are shown in the EOL announcement, plus this line stood out to me:

"Customers can continue to purchase HPE StoreVirtual 4000 SKUs until they reach the obsolescence (OBSO) phase. Customers should be aware that any orders for EOL SKUs placed after the discontinuance (DISC) date will only be accepted and fulfilled based on material availability. Customers should plan their last buy activities BEFORE the DISC date of 31 July 2017 to ensure acceptance and availability. There are no new generations of HPE StoreVirtual 4000 appliance planned."

I'm hoping this is just another rebrand scenario (as the reference the OS as Lefthand OS 12.7 rather than the most recent rebrand to StoreVirtual OS).  I've not seen anyone post on this, so hoping to have my fears assuaged (as I've used these since they were Lefthand Networks... (since 2006 - SAN/iQ 6).

Appreciate any input that you have to clarify the situation.

I think with the acquisition of Nimble storage, HPE are starting to do some consolidation and removing redundant platforms.

Storevirtual VSA and Converged systems covers their HCI portfolio and the Storevirtual 3200 range probably replaces the Storevirtual 4000 range to an extent.

Thanks for the feedback.  Still it seems like a very abrupt announcement.  The first I heard of it was the beginning of July (put out in June).  I thought typically you'd get at least a six month notice before the discontinuance notice.  A month notice is a bit unappreciated especially since they didn't get their ducks in a row in regards to a transition recommendation.

A situation such as this will definitely be on the list of potential "cons" when considering what platform we move to next.

Yes it does indeed appear that all the P4000 hardware platforms have been very quickly discontinued.

This seems unfortunate becasuse even though the 3200 looks like a platform with a lot of potential, it  really doesn't seem quite ready to take on all the functionality that the 4000's offered, particularly because it's only just recently been able to scale out to two devices.  The fact that the dual controller 3200 is being positioned as a near equivalent to a two node P4000 cluster say that it has the same level of availability as a 2 node P4000 cluster.     Frankly the high level of availability the P4000's offered was one of the main reasons we migrated from MSA to P4000.   So while the 2 node 3200 is a step in the right direction, I'd want to see it out in the field and stress tested before migrating off of P4000 and VSA nodes.

For our customers with P4000 based installs, we're in a holding pattern on any expansion to see how this plays out...

The information in this EOL announcement is indeed true.  This is not a rebranding or naming change.  The StoreVirtual 4000 appliances were based on HPE ProLiant Gen8 server platforms and as those platforms have reached the end of their lives, the StoreVirtual 4000 SKUs are no longer buildable.  Inventories are drying up quickly so customers wanting to buy more capacity should engage with your HPE rep or channel partner quickly.  It would also be recommended that customers move to the SVOS v12.7 which was released in June to avoid issues down the road on older versions as they become unsupported.  There are a number of different HPE options customers who are evaluating new platforms can choose from at this point with all-flash and hybrid configs from 3PAR, Nimble, MSA, SimpliVity or other StoreVirtual platforms depending on your requirements, workloads,
