Unable to Set Speed or Duplex, Significant Packet Loss

I need help! In production we currently have two HPE StoreVirtual 4330's as well as a StoreVirtual FOM running in Microsoft Hyper-V. The 4330's have x2 10Gbps SFP+ connections each to our switch stack, they're set to 10Gbps Full-Auto with their Frame Size set to 9000 (jumbo) and they're bonded. This has been running great for over a year.

So I then decided to add one more 4330 to the mix and this is where I've run in to major issues. The first thing that happened when I powered on this device was plenty of warnings to do with excessive packet loss. I immediately switched the cable & ports with the known-working servers so I can rule that out as an issue.

HPE have replaced the NIC twice which has not resolved the problem. I tried being online with support once but they just clicked through the CMC reading me out things they could see on the screen for an hour...

I just did a fresh-install of the OS using the HPE StoreVirtual Quick Restore DVD v12.6 as this is the version I'm running on the others. This made no difference. I have run HP's SPP firmware update DVD on the server and also found another bootable ISO which updates the firmware on this specific NIC - this also has not helped.

From the DOS-looking configuration interface I can't set the speed/duplex or packet size - I could do this on the other servers which really leaves me wondering what to do. If anyone has any idea's that would be super. Here is what happens when I try to set the speed/duplex & frame size:

First I attempt to set the speed/duplex and frame size:

I am given the error FAILED: The selected mode is invalid for this device.

So I try and set only the frame size:

I receive this normal warning and click OK:

However when I review the settings again afterwards (even after a reboot) the settings are gone! The exact same behaviour occurs in the CMC

With the HPE tech he tried bonding/unbonding and adding to/from the management group but it was all a waste of time. Like the other servers I thought I should be able to set these settings before setting up the server?

Any advice would be absolutely wonderful. I've been searching these forums but haven't found an exact match to this issue yet, I am continuing to read threads though.

Re: Unable to Set Speed or Duplex, Significant Packet Loss

Hi Team,

As per the Release Notes of 12.6 and 12.7, setting the speed of the 10Gig Card is not supported and it is not required.

o 10 GB NIC status in TCP status shows failed after changing the NIC Flow Control settings Do not configure the flow control or speed settings on 10 GB network interface cards. If you attempt to change the setting, the change does not take effect.
